Written by Ryan Copeland

In 2019, Black Friday shoppers spent £5.7 million online, the second largest internet shopping day, ever*. And with Black Friday taking place this year whilst high street shops are closed, it’s more important than ever to make sure your sales and discounts attract customers. If like some you’ve left it to the last minute and your Magento 2 developers don’t have the capacity to take on work at such late notice, this article a couple of things that you can do without a developer inside the Magento 2 admin area.

So, when is Black Friday?

Black Friday will take place this year on Friday, 27th November, just four weeks before Christmas day. That means anyone who is yet to buy Christmas presents, may be doing it all on that one day.

What can I do last minute?

The Magento 2 admin area makes it super easy for anyone to get prepared for Black Friday with just a few days remaining. Here’s just a couple of ideas:

Give your customers a discount code

Did you know you can set up a discount code in less than three minutes? Yes, three! Just follow the steps below in the Magento 2 admin area:

  • Go to Marketing > Cart Price Rules > Add New Rule
  • Complete the mandatory fields, there’s only a few such as; the discount amount (percent or price discount), time period and uses per customer
  • Click Save and you’re done!

Add a banner to your homepage

Promotional banners are a great way to let your customers know about your sales and discounts and they can be extremely effective as long as they;

  • Have a clear message
  • Are responsive across all devices (mobile, tablet, desktop etc.)
  • Have a clear CTA (call to action)
  • Have a slick design

To create a homepage banner, simply follow the steps below:

  • Go to Content > Blocks > Add New Block
  • Complete the mandatory fields and add your banner image (i.e. using the Magezon Page Builder)
  • Click Save

To add the banner to your homepage, simply follow the steps below:

  • Go to Content > Pages > Choose the Homepage
  • In the Content tab, click Insert Widget
  • Insert the banner that you had previously created
  • Click Save and you’re done!

Post Social Media Content

Social media is a great way to increase brand awareness, shout about sales and drive traffic to your ecommerce website. From paid Facebook ad campaigns to free Instagram posts and stories, there’s plenty of ways to capture the attention of new and existing customers.

Send Marketing Emails

Targeting users that are already engaged is one of the most cost effective ways to shout about your sales and drive traffic to your website. There are a number of third party email marketing platforms to choose from including Dot Digital and MailChimp, allowing you to send targeted and personalised content, build relationships with customers and learn about your customers shopping behaviours from enhanced metrics.

Final Word

If you’re unprepared for Black Friday, with just a few days to go, you can still offer customers discounts and shout about them using website banners, social media content or email marketing.
