Ecommerce Strategy

As an online merchant, having a solid ecommerce strategy is fundamental to your businesses success. We have over a decade of experience working with online merchants, helping them to sell more online and grow their businesses.

At Foundation Commerce, we believe there is no magic solution that works for everyone. Because of this, we have not tied ourselves with a single platform, we have become specialists in the platforms that we feel bring the most value to our clients. This enables us to be flexible with the solutions that we propose. We want you to have the right platform for your business, not the platform that serves us best.

Us partnering with a specific ecommerce platform does not give you this flexibility, as often agencies or software houses are forced to sell you a service being promoted by the platform in order to maintain their partner status. We are not interested in any of that. You are the main priority here and always will be!

So how do you form the right ecommerce strategy for you? It’s pretty simple really…

Step 1: Learning About Your Business

First we learn all there is to know about your business. We will be asking questions like;

What products do you sell?
How do you fulfil orders?
Who is your target audience?
What other systems is your business dependent on?
Where do you see the business in 5 years time?

Having the answers to these questions will provide us with an overview of your business and where you want to take it. This will aid us in forming a solid ecommerce strategy and proposing the right solution.

Step 2: Selecting The Right Ecommerce Platform

Once we have an overview of your business, we can then start looking at which ecommerce platform is right for you. We will provide you with all the relevant insight you need to make an informed decision, explaining the pros and cons of each platform available to you. This way you can have the confidence that the platform you choose will be the right platform for your business.

Step 3: Ecommerce Solution Specification

We now know which ecommerce platform we are going to use as the engine of your website. The next part of forming the ecommerce strategy is looking at what we need to make that platform do, in order to propel your business to success. We would sit down with key members of your team and discuss what those requirements are and how we will achieve them. To ensure nothing is missed we break this meeting down into the following sections:

  1. Systems Overview – Here we look at all the systems that are fundamental to the day-to-day running of your business. In some cases this may just be your website. In other cases there could also be accounting or ERP systems in play that we need to integrate with. This session covers these.
  2. Integrations – When we know what systems are in play, we look at how these will work together and automate where possible to reduce the need for any manual work.
  3. Product Catalogue Review – We then review your product catalogue to find the best approach for selling your products on your website. We also study your category structure and promote ways it can be optimised to improve your user experience.
  4. Frontend Look & Feel – Finally we cover the frontend of your website and how it will look and function. We look at your target audience and ensure that your site makes it easy for your customers to place orders on your website, hassle free.

These requirements form the contents of a solution specification document. This document details and outlines the scope of work for the project. This is signed off by both parties so that it is clear what is to be delivered at the end of the project.

Step 4: Let’s Build

With the solution specification document signed off, we begin the development process. We have a proven development process that has been tried and tested in the past to ensure that we deliver work to the high standard we expect and to set deadlines. Step 5: Time To Scale

Once your website is live, our time together is by no means over. We want you to take the view that we are your technical partners, rather than suppliers. We come on board as an extension of your team. This provides the technical foundations your business needs in order to succeed. Working alongside you, we will work together to design ways in which we can grow your business in order to provide you with a return on investment that puts a big smile on your face.
